Our Story

I'm Sarah, the owner of Café Halcyon. Born and raised on this beautiful island, and proud to be half Okinawan! Here's a little backstory on how it all began... In 2014, I traveled to Paris with my partner, Jess, and was instantly hooked on crepes. They were magic—just one bite, and I was addicted. Back in Okinawa, after transitioning to a vegan diet, I still craved that same unforgettable taste. So, I started making my own at home, crafting a dairy-free recipe that hit all the right notes. What began as a personal obsession slowly grew into something much bigger.

In 2019, right before things got crazy with the pandemic, I decided to turn my crepe love into a business. We started as a small pop-up at a place called Pizza Sun in American Village. Honestly, I didn’t expect much, but on our first weekend, there was a line out the door! People loved our crepes, and I realized Okinawa’s vegan community was ready for more, so we were excited to expand.

Not long after, my mom found this perfect spot for rent by the seawall. It was meant to be! We spent three months renovating and making the space our own, even building a wall to share the location with my mom's fitness cycle studio, Younity. Café Halcyon officially opened its doors on October 30th 2019, and it’s been a dream come true ever since.

Our vegan crepes are unique—sweet, savory, and made with love in every bite. We’re all about quality, using fresh ingredients and crafting mostly everything in-house. Our coffee lineup is just as special, featuring freshly roasted beans from local roasters, Pittmans Coffee. Café Halcyon isn’t just about the food; it’s about creating a space where everyone feels welcome. It’s like hanging out at a friend’s place, where you can relax by the ocean and soak in the good vibes.
